Dear citizen of Platanias, dear visitor,

The new Platanias Municipality covers an area of a particular terrain with exceptional natural beauty.It reaches from the northern cosmopolitan beaches of the island to the scenic paths of the Lefka Ori             (White Mountains) and the Omalos Plateau.

It is a land with a rich tradition and culture. It is financially active in many fields and attracts investors especially in the tourist  industry.

The new Municipality of Platanias is responsible, particularly in difficult economic circumstances like the ones we’re undergoing, to make up for the shortcomings of the past, the  inequalities and lack of homogeneity arising either from the varied landscape or from the distorted economic development of past years and to offer more up-to-date services focusing on the prosperity and well-being of  its inhabitants.

The new Municipal Authority believes that one of the most significant tool towards achieving its aims is the wide use of technology so that the Municipality of Platanias will become a pioneer and set an example. There are significant works being carried out while, at the same time, the existing facilities are being used.

A pylon-gate which is gradually being perfected and ready for use is the Municipal Portal via which many services are made possible in a unified way in every field :

• services of e-governing on four levels according to international models.
• Services of e- democracy such as referendums, expressing  opinions, participation in discussion forums and publicizing the resolutions of the Town Council.
• Viewing online of our land enabling the visitor of the portal to get information on it to whatever extent is desirable, ranging  from a mere tour to whatever extent is desirable, ranging  from a mere tour to scientific research.
• Creation of context on a volunteer basis (citizens describe their home land and its history.)

At the same time works on  contemporary digital infrastructures are being carried out such as the development of free Internet access centers, which will carry all state services, enterprises and citizens right into the broadband era.

These works will complete a series of interventions which the Municipality considers as an obligation towards its citizens. Citizens have a right to :

1. Fast and easy access to the Internet for everybody
2. E-administration Services
3. Development of digital context
4. Enhancing of e-democracy

Our aim is to provide top-level services both for our citizens as well as our visitors and entrepreneurs.

Our aim is to record and preserve our cultural reserve, to manage the environment in a way adapted to the needs of our times and to improve the image  of our land.
